Throughout this year, Santa Cruz School has been developing important initiatives focused on critical thinking and a commitment to social justice. As part of the Youth and Adult Education (EJA), Cycle 1 students are delving deeper into the theme “Women” through activities that encourage dialogue and reflection. Among the highlights, students watched the film *The Best Mother in the World* by Anna Muylaert and participated in a meeting with Amelinha Teles—a feminist, journalist, and one of the key figures behind the Maria da Penha Law. The event was marked by sharing, listening, and conversations about violence against women, fostering a more sensitive and conscious understanding of the topic.
At the same time, the school continues to advance its anti-racist policy through the Santa Plural program, which seeks to expand racial diversity and strengthen more inclusive educational practices. Since its implementation, Santa has been promoting discussions across different aspects of school life, involving educators and various sectors. As part of this process, a reference group was created with broad participation from the educational community and specialized advisors, responsible for conducting listening sessions, focus groups, and developing guidelines to combat racism.
Currently, the work focuses on developing anti-racist institutional policies and establishing guidelines for addressing instances of racism in everyday school life. Soon, the results of these efforts will be presented to the community, marking another step forward in Santa Cruz School’s commitment to an education that promotes respect, equity, and the celebration of diversity.
