Colégio Dom Amando celebrates Amazonian culture and access to education

The 54th Folklore Festival and a tribute to the Solidarity College Prep Course highlight the school’s commitment to Amazonian culture and the education of young people

Folklore Festival celebrates the richness of cultural encounters in the Amazon

From August 20 to 22, Colégio Dom Amando held the 54th edition of its Folklore Festival. With the theme “The Amazon: A Place Where Cultures Meet,” the event brought together students, families, and the community for three nights dedicated to music, dance, and the region’s diverse cultural expressions.

The folklore performances introduced the audience to traditions that are part of the Amazonian identity, featuring choreography, costumes, and performances prepared by the students. The Festival also featured traditional foods and booths representing communities from the Santarém region, bringing visitors closer to their customs, stories, and ways of life.

For the students, the experience began before the performances. By learning about and representing different communities, they were exposed to other realities and broadened their perspective on the cultural diversity found in the Amazon. In this way, the Festival also became a space for learning, social interaction, and appreciation of the region’s cultural roots.

Over the course of 54 editions, the Folklore Festival has established itself as a tradition that brings generations together and transforms culture into a learning experience. In 2026, the event highlighted the interactions that help shape Amazonian identity and reinforced Colégio Dom Amando’s connection to the history and culture of Santarém.

Solidarity College Prep Course Honored for Its Work in Support of Education

Colégio Dom Amando’s Solidarity College Prep Project was honored on August 28 during a Special Session held at the Santarém City Council in celebration of National Volunteer Day. Under the theme “Hands that transform lives: small gestures, big changes,” the session recognized initiatives and individuals who contribute to social transformation through volunteerism.

Representing the project, teacher Francisca das Chagas Maia Barreto, the project coordinator, received a plaque in recognition of the work carried out throughout the project’s history. Also present at the event were the principal of Colégio Dom Amando, Fernando Frozza, and Brother Nilto Neres of the Congregation of Holy Cross.

Run by the Congregation of Holy Cross since 2002, the project offers free preparation for the ENEM and college entrance exams to 12th-grade students in public high schools. Over the course of more than two decades, more than 1,500 students have participated in the project, many of whom have secured spots at public and private universities.

This tribute recognizes an initiative that combines education and social commitment, expanding access to higher education and helping young people in Santarém forge new paths through education.
