CECOIA: Art and Cuisine as Tools for Transformation and Strengthening Bonds

Cultural and educational experiences at CECOIA combine art and cuisine to stimulate creativity, autonomy, and the strengthening of bonds among adolescents

Hands-On: Cooking Workshop with Mesa Brasil

On May 20, CECOIA welcomed the team from Mesa Brasil, a SESC program that works to combat food waste and promote food security through partnerships with social institutions. In addition to food donations, the program conducts educational activities and workshops tailored to its beneficiaries.

In this edition of the project, the teenagers participated in a cooking workshop and got their hands dirty preparing a cookie recipe. The activity encouraged teamwork, sharing experiences, and the development of independence, while also providing an opportunity for socializing and bonding.

Amid ingredients, laughter, and new discoveries, the participants followed every step of the preparation process and were able to taste the results of their own work. The workshop demonstrated how cooking can be a space for learning, collaboration, and strengthening bonds.

Art That Transforms: A Visit to the Exhibition “The Scent of Colors”

On May 15, at the invitation of Judge Marcos Porto of the Regional Labor Court, the teenagers from CECOIA visited the exhibition “The Scent of Colors” by artist Michaela Affonso Ferreira Nardone, on display at the Novo Espaço Cultural Desembargador Eurico Cruz Neto.

The activity provided participants with direct exposure to artistic creation and sparked reflections on the different forms of expression present in the works. Throughout the visit, the young people were able to observe how art conveys stories, emotions, and different perspectives on reality.

The experience continued at CECOIA itself, where the teenagers participated in a painting workshop inspired by the exhibition. Each student created their own painting, exploring their creativity and expressing ideas, feelings, and experiences through art.

The initiative expanded the young people’s access to culture and demonstrated how artistic experiences can foster sensitivity, creativity, and a sense of agency, contributing to the participants’ personal and social development.
